Craig Minter (00:00)
Hello and welcome to episode one of the Healthy Business Lab podcast, where we’re going to be sharing stories from allied health business owners around their experiences in growing and creating healthy and sustainable and profitable businesses. Now, I’m Craig Minter and I’ll be the host for all of these podcast episodes and

You know, this one here is just going to be a quick solo one to give a bit of an introduction and an overview as to what to expect. So a bit of a quick background around me. Why am I doing this? And what’s my background in this space? So, you know, I’ve been involved in around allied health businesses for decades now. You know, my initial beginning was in public health services here in Australia and in the UK.

Being my background, being an accountant, being the numbers person, the finance person that helped all business managers in, you know, allied health community and aged care services, helping managers run massive budgets and, you know, big practices in the public health space. And basically working out how can we effectively use the money that we have to get the outcomes that we’re after and create

great models of delivery so that we can impact as many lives for the better as possible. having that experience from a professional sense and then from a personal sense, of basically being involved in sports and performance for ever since I was a little kid as well and managed to play football, so soccer, at a reasonable level, being exposed to…

physiotherapists, performance people, strength, conditioning, all these sort of practices. Again, knowing the impact that they’ve had on my life from, you know, looking after my body and those types of things as well. And then as I’ve gone through life as well, know, starting to access more therapies, whether they be, you know, counseling, psychology, OTs, and, you know, as we’ve grown a family.

accessing multiple different modalities of professionals in the allied health space.

Just seen what such a big impact that the profession has on the community at large. And so, you know, with our business that we now help and serve, we help a lot of allied health and related businesses create sustainable and profitable businesses and help them with the financial side, understanding the numbers and those types of things. so…

This podcast is sort of an evolution of that of wanting to create more stories and more education and more insights from those business owners, the amazing allied health professionals, business owners who are creating a massive impact on their communities and creating those ripple effects throughout the community. And, you know, being conscious of the way that you can then impact more people is very much to have

sustainable business that, you know, money doesn’t become a challenge for that. And so this podcast isn’t going to be all about money and the financial side. That’s usually the, the, the outcome at the end of the day. this, you know, in the episodes and the interviews that we’re going to be doing, we’re really going to focus on to have.

sustainable business, no one, we all need to and I know from my own experience as a business owner, we need to look after ourselves. And so again, there’s so much expertise in the community and in the adult health space to reconnect with all the things that we can do to look after ourselves. And you know, if we look after ourselves, then it makes running a business and managing a business and looking after our mental, physical wellbeing.

which, cause as we are our greatest asset in our business. So reconnecting with that. So that’s gonna be a part of what we’re going to talk about. In the, in the title of the podcast, Healthy Business Lab, the lab, you know, is all this idea of experiments. And at the end of the day, I very much believe that business is a big experiment. And you know, this podcast for me is an experiment of…

What stories can we share? What impact can we have? What community can we build? And so we’ll be getting insights from business owners around what experiments have they done in their business to make change, make growth, whatever it may be. And again, explore some of those learnings that we’ve had. And finally, we’re going to be definitely delving into the outcomes.

What are the impacts that we’re having on, you know, clients lives and you know, what, you know, is able to be achieved because again, if we’re going full circle on creating sustainable businesses, we want to have more people having these, you know, amazing experiences and transformations where, you know, there’s things that weren’t working for them, but they’ve managed to change your life around or, you know, just being in a better place than what they were with them when they started their therapeutic.

journey. And so again, highlighting that and those outcomes, and ideally drives this idea to be able to do more of that. And if we can do that, we can impact more people. And we get great business out there. That means we get more practitioners out into the world. And you know, even that ability to create more jobs. And therefore, you know,

a number of different modalities. It’s in the news all the time about, you know, the waiting list to access services in the therapeutic space and the allied health space. So again, that’s very much what we’re trying to do to add a little bit to that community to build, create sustainable, healthy businesses, have more impact and have that ripple effect going throughout the world. And so

At the end of the day, why should you be tuning in to these moving forward? You’re gonna get practical takeaways that you’ll get from these interviews and these insights that you’re going to get. There’ll be things that you’ll hear that somebody’s tried that you can go, hey, that could work really well for me personally to improve myself and my wellbeing, which has that flow on effect through the business. Or it may be a business insights that can be, ooh.

That’s a great idea that we haven’t thought of before that can, you know, move the dial on what you can do for your clientele. And so you’re going to get that in every episode. There’ll be, I’m sure, I’ve already started recording a few interviews and already massive takeaways that I’ve started to implement one or two of them already myself. And at the end of the day, by listening, you just start to feel more empowered and confident in…

you know, in yourself and the running of your business and knowing that you’re not alone. At the end of the day, this is to be able to hear relatable stories from other business owners in your, you know, field, similar backgrounds, similar education, similar desires of what they’re trying to do by having the business in the first place is you’re going to hear real life examples, you know, some of the challenges and then the outcomes. And so.

you know, being a part of that community of, you know, coming from a space of knowing and understanding, you know, is definitely a reason to continue tuning in. And so, yeah, what I say is make sure that you hit the subscribe button to your favorite podcasting platform. All these episodes will also go through our website and through YouTube as well. So if you like the video versions.

then, you know, make sure you subscribe, get the notifications coming through for each episode. We will be doing these ideally sort of weekly. You’ll be getting episodes released for these. So, and again, actually make sure you share it with other people in the space that you’re networking with. And finally also.

If you want to share some stories of your own, we would love to have you as a guest. So make sure you drop us a note and a line and we can definitely look to get you onto one of these episodes as well to share your insights if you’d like to give back to our community as well. So there you have it. Really excited to have you.

know, dialing in and listening into this first one and get an insight as to what’s coming and super excited to be sharing the stories and the insights that we’re going to be sharing in the coming weeks, months, and ideally years. Again, as you come from an experiment, we’re doing at least a hundred episodes of these to see what the impact is and what stories we can get. And at the end of the day, how can we achieve what we’re trying to achieve of

creating more sustainable, healthy and profitable businesses. you know, always remember that, you know, when you and your business thrives, the ripple effects can transform at the end of your team, your clients, your community, and, you know, beyond even those go. So thank you for joining me on this journey to explore what makes a truly healthy business and getting those insights.
