if you’re out there and you’ve started to listen to these podcast

and you’re finding getting a little bit of value

I have no doubt that you’ve got plenty of value to share yourself

as well and we’re always looking for more great

amazing guests to share insights

share learnings and show that business can be a challenge

there are UPS and downs and there are things that we’ve Learned from

Hello and Welcome to Episode 8 of The Healthy Business Lab Podcast

where we normally talk to allied health business owners

and plenty of their learnings and knowledge

and insights on both their expertise

how they’ve grown what they’ve Learned in running a business

and then some of their powerful transformations

that they get for their clients

today is going to be just a little bit different

it’s me flying solo here as I said Episode 8

2 months into this podcast

this is an experiment in itself

something I love talking about experiments and the like

I thought it was useful two months into

have a little bit of a review have a recap

here’s some of the insights that have really stuck in my mind from the

early conversations that we’ve had with our amazing guest

but then also share what we’ve got coming up

and how we’re looking to tweak modify and yeah

curate the content that we’re sharing with our listeners

so to kick things off

as you touch about what we’d like to share is plenty of

the expertise that the knowledge that allied health practitioners

and business owners have as well

and what we love to share here is the expertise of an allied health

business owner in the respect of

one of the things that business owners don’t do

is look after themselves and from some of

our early interviews even from Episode 2

the second one we had Claire Wu on who is talking about breath work

and actually run us through a nice simple

easy breathing technique which

calms the nervous system

and it’s something that I know I’ve been working on

doing some breath work and so what Claire shared with us again

another great thing to be mindful of

that we can put into everyday practice

nice and simply nice and easily and it will help us get through a day

it will help us do what we need to do in business and a nice

simple way to be able to start looking after ourselves

following on from that the Episode 4 with Pip Reed

I was the other one that stuck out in my mind in this sort of space

and it was again looking after our body and being a nutrition expert

she said some great little insights on fueling the body

and it was even just a very simple one of needing that quick snack

she said reach for a medjool dates

and that’s stuck in my mind

because it’s something that I just started recently doing

and I shared that on the episode as well

but I know I’m quite conscious of

do I eat much of that because there’s sugars involved

and I always question Mark natural sugars versus unnatural sugars

so he’s like don’t get too lost in the idea of sugar

I mean it’s a nice

healthy snack that can tie you over at times and get you through

the next little

space to fuel your body and what you

need to do so again

another one that I’ve taken on board myself

and the final one that really struck home with me was

the last episode with

Darran Yeow around

the eyesight and how often we neglect it in fairness

and we don’t get regular checkups

without eyesight is what we often do

without general health and well being

it’s sort of

ingrained in us to make sure we have an annual checkup with a GP

but it’s not ingrained in us to have that annual check up for our eyes

and as Darran shared

it was the notion that it’s your most important sense in many ways

and as a business owner much of what we do

we wouldn’t be able to do that

how we do it and the like if we didn’t have great eyesight

and so again that nice gentle reminder of looking after your eyes

extremely important

and he gave a few ideas around or often on technology in like

if we’re not working with clients directly there

and we’re doing all the administration sides of running a business

spending time having a break from technology and

the reducing the eye strain

which eye strain leads to headaches and

just not functioning at our optimal

so from those first episodes

those were the three big ones that really

stood out to me as far as looking after myself as a business owner

so jump in watch each of those episodes to get the full story on those

that’s just me paraphrasing those then that what I touch upon again

some of my highlights

around the experiments that some of our business owners shared

in our episodes

and there’s probably two episodes that strung out that  had

a similar theme

it was Episode 5 with Kezia Tieck and Episode 6 with Sara Woodroffe

where they both were very open

and sharing around how they like to network collaborate

learn from others in the space

and given the fact that this podcast is all about that idea

it really resonated with me

to hear their experience of how they’ve approached collaborations

networking and really being able to

just harness that knowledge that goes around

so again highly encourage you to experiment with

getting to know more of your fellow practitioners

and even cross modality sort of thing

that they both sort of share that idea of being able to cross refer

if we’re not the right fit

for clients then where can I put them

point them in that direction so that they can get great outcomes

and what a lot of the experiments I loved hearing from each of

our guests has been that notion of very person centred approaches

and if we’re able to

have that at heart then things like collaboration

networking a

finding out what other people are doing in the space

and how they can help can only be beneficial for everybody involved

and following some of the transformations again

it’s hard to

they all every episode has some really cool transformations

but the one that sort of probably stuck in

my mind the most again but probably could get

resonate with me a little bit

with my journey of wellness and the like

with Matt and Marcus from Connect Health over there in New Zealand

where Matt was sharing that the process of bringing somebody

or seeing a client who wanted to be able

to run pain free and the like

and coming back to people be able to look after themselves

as a business owner if you’re suffering from pain

that’s going to put a inhibitor in that

I’m sitting here right now with a bit of a twingy back

that makes me not function at my best and the like

and so being able to hear

here that transformation that Matt shared around the

sort of the six month process

and it’s looking at the holistic picture

of the client and been able to step them through

and then some of it was he sort of talked about being an osteopath

yes there was physical components

but it’s even the emotional

the relational sort of thinking

that if we’re there for the client through that whole process

and have a plan over a period of time

that it is amazing transformations you can take place

and he’s only gave that person was able to start running again

and it’s like knowing the power of how that can change somebody’s life

to get back to something that they might have thought

they might not get back to

is extremely powerful

so I thought I just share some of my key takeaways

and in future in these podcast

what we’re going to be doing

where this podcast it is going now is

this episode comes to you in the school holidays

here in New South Wales here in Sydney

where I’m based

and my business is very much based ideally around sort of school terms

it’s hey we we have three young kids during school holidays

we only spending time with a family

we wan to devote time to that and have business just take away

do what it needs to do

and so this podcast is kind of going to follow that

process as you’re going to evolve this podcast where we’ll kind of have those

10 episodes sharing learning insights

and then we’ll probably have during the school holiday time

sort of reflection pieces similar to this one

sharing highlights probably in the future as I

refine our processes here with the podcast and continue to evolve

cause I always believe in continuous evolution of this

rather than me just talking

cause in fairness I like doing the interviewing

I don’t like just standing here talking to a mirror

just a mirror, a camera just myself

I like having those conversations

I like learning from others

that will probably extract some of those highlights

and get the snippets out there

so you can hear the gold

from our guests themselves

so that will likely be coming moving forward

we’ll have the interviews then we’ll have during holiday time

we’ll have the reflections and the ideas

and again what’s coming up in the next series

and I’ll sort of start to look at creating some series

within the wider podcast sense

and whether that’s a 10 week run of certain modalities

in the allied health space

a sneak teaser

there will probably be a series on amazing coaches and connectors

and those types of professionals that work in the allied health space

as well that I’ve started to be connected to through this podcast

stories have opened up and so that

idea of having more conversations with people in the space

opens up opportunities to meet more great people again

the experiment for me in creating this podcast

has very much been around more conversations hey

this is definitely done that from my perspective

and I really encourage people to have these conversations

cause with conversations come opportunity as well

there we have it

and I just wanted to jump in share some insights

share where this podcast is going

and if you’re out there and you’ve started to listen to these podcast

and you’re finding getting a little bit of value

I have no doubt that you’ve got plenty of value to share yourself

as well and we’re always looking for more great

amazing guest to share insights

share learnings and show that business can be a challenge

there are ups and downs and there are things that we’ve learnt from

and if there’s lessons that you’ve learnt from your experiences

in managing your practice

and evolving what you do and how you do it

then we’d love to hear those stories because again

we just wan to have real

authentic conversations that people can relate to

and then be able to take all those little bits of nuggets

the ones that work for you

and then you’re able to go and do your own experiments

and see where that lands you in creating sustainable

profitable

businesses that ultimately end up with more transformations

that’s what we’re after is businesses that are able to grow

get more team members

serve more clients and get everybody getting the healthy

happy outcomes that all the amazing

allied health businesses out there provide

so that’s it that’s over for me

love to have you on as a guest

love for you to like follow
